Update on Airport Habitat Restoration 2005

The County has removed fill and restored Prichard Lake pursuant to an agreement with US EPA and US Fish and Wildlife. The County has also acquired several hundred acres of land nearby which will be managed as wildlife habitat. However, to date, the County has not mitigated for the loss of Swainson's Hawk nesting habitat. It takes many years to replace large suitable nesting trees such as those below which were cut down in 2002 and have not been replaced.

County will turn rice field such as this one into a marsh for wildlife that is compatible with airport use nearby.
