If you're new to the site, please review our initial post (Aug 2) about the Building industry petition to delist Swainson's Hawk as a threatened species in California. This post is an update with new information.
This week experts and environmental advocates held a meeting under the leadership of Audubon California to discuss the status of Swainson's Hawks in California. The consensus was that the population has grown during 40 years of legal protection. But it is not at the level meriting delisting. The scientists disputed the BIA's interpretation of existing data.
Today, Raptors are the Solution published an in-depth review of the issue by Joe Eaton, with interviews of key experts. https://raptorsarethesolution.org/press/rats-tales-archives/rats-tales-full-articles/threatened-hawk-faces-uncertain-future/.
